Costa Rica: América Construcciones (Amco) has begun building a new 110m3/hr ready-mix concrete batching plant at Villareal in Tamarindo, Guanacaste Province. Noticias Financieras News has reported that the plant will also have an office building on-site. Amco operates in strategic partnership with Switzerland-based Holcim in Costa Rica.
Amco general manager Pablo Labarca said "The opening of our new plant in Villareal is a significant step in our business growth strategy. We are committed to delivering high-quality products and playing a key role in the economic development of the region." Labarca added "We value our partnership with Holcim, which shares our vision in areas such as innovation and sustainability, helping us bring advanced and eco-friendly solutions to the Guanacaste market.”
Clark Brothers Contracting secures conditional approval for Wellington North ready-mix concrete plant plans
15 August 2024Canada: Clark Brothers Contracting has received conditional approval from the council of Wellington North Township to build a ready-mix concrete plant in the town in Ontario. Local press has reported that the plans will be subject to review by the Wellington County Land Division Committee in September 2024.
Holcim acquires Mixercon and Comacsa
09 August 2024Peru: Switzerland-based Holcim has acquired ready-mix concrete producer Mixercon and industrial minerals producer Comacsa for US$100m combined. Noticias Financieras News has reported that the acquisitions mark Holcim’s entry into Peru, strengthening its hold in the South and Central American market.
Regional head Oliver Osswald said "The incorporation of Comacsa and Mixercon will allow us to generate synergies and develop export markets.”
New Zealand: Ready-mix concrete plants produced 3.92Mm3 of ready-mix concrete in the 2024 financial year, which ended on 30 June 2024. According to data from Statistics New Zealand, this corresponds to an 11% year-on-year decline from 2023 financial year levels. Volumes also dropped in the fourth quarter of the 2024 financial year, by 9% year-on-year to 978,0003.
UAE: Azizi Developments has poured 22,000m3 of concrete over 56 consecutive hours at the site of its upcoming Azizi Venice housing development in Dubai. TradeArabia News has reported that Azizi Venice will comprise 36,000 residential units, spread over 100 tower blocks and 109 houses.
Chair Mirwais Azizi said "The quality and speed at which our developments manifest from vision into reality fills us with immense pride. This extensive, record-breaking two-day concrete pour, which is the largest of its kind in the UAE, exemplifies – and serves as a testament to – the fast pace of our latest community project."
CRH acquires Ary Corporation
23 July 2024US: CRH has acquired ready-mix concrete and aggregates producer Ary Corporation. The Commercial Observer newspaper has reported that Ary Corporation operates nine ready-mixed concrete plants and 25 aggregates sites, along with construction and paving services and seven asphalt plants.
CRH’s Americas Materials Solutions president, Scott Parson, said "We are delighted to welcome all Ary Corporation employees to the CRH family. The acquisition expands our existing footprint in Colorado and presents CRH with attractive opportunities for development and growth. As North America's leading integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready mixed concrete and construction services, we look forward to serving customers in Colorado with our unique combination of building materials, products and solutions."
Palestine: Israeli occupying forces have reportedly demolished 38 ready-mix concrete plants in the Gaza Strip since entering the territory on 7 October 2024. The Middle East Monitor newspaper has reported that forces struck the sites from the air before bulldozing them.
A local ready-mix concrete company director said "We previously faced challenges from Israel in establishing these plants, and the response process was very slow. Our estimates indicate that the cost of establishing one plant ranges between US$1 – 3m, in addition to the costs of equipment.” The director concluded “Every item of equipment represents a challenge for us.”
Belarusian Cement to build Moscow logistics facility
10 June 2024Russia: Belarusian Cement has concluded a deal with the Moscow regional government to build a logistics facility in the region at Naro-Fominsk. Prime Press News has reported that the facility will cost US$22.5m. It will be equipped with ready-mix concrete, precast concrete and dry mix plants, as well as a rail terminal, storage areas and loading zones for despatches by road.
Director General Alexander Dovgalo said "This investment will not only bolster our logistics capabilities but also enhance our service quality for Russian partners and extend our market reach within Russia and the CIS member states."
Infra.Market sells stake in RDC Concrete
07 June 2024India: Infra.Market has sold its minority stake in RDC Concrete, according to local press. Investor Nikhil Kamath led a US$20m funding round in the producer, including contributions from Capri Global Family Office, Sumeet Kanwar and Wear Steels. RDC Concrete previously divested itself of 10% of shares in RDC Concrete. RDC Concrete operates 100 ready-mix concrete batching plants in India. Infra.Market retains control of 100 ready-mix concrete plants through its other concrete subsidiaries.
Nikhil Kamath said "RDC Concrete has made remarkable progress in transforming the construction landscape in India with its ready-mix concrete. It is less polluting, expedites construction timelines, and significantly reduces waste and expense. Bosnia & Herzegovina: Ingram commissioned a new €5.11m ready-mix concrete plant in Tuzla on 6 June 2024. The producer says that it has also begun the construction of a fully automated precast concrete products plant. Local contractor Bingo is responsible for both projects.
