Nuvoco Vistas inaugurates second ready-mix concrete batching plant
23 February 2024India: Nuvoco Vistas has inaugurated its second ready-mix concrete plant, at Ranipur Milki Chak in Bihar’s Patna District. The producer said that the plant, called Patna-II, is strategically positioned for access both to local cement plants and the urban concrete market of Patna. The plant commands 60m3/hr of capacity and is equipped with a twin shaft mixer capable of producing all grades of concrete. Its products include Nuvoco Vistas’ XCON, CONCRETO, Light Weight Concrete, Fibre Enriched Concrete, High Strength Concrete, Water and Crack Resistant Concrete, Foundation Expert Concrete, ECODURE Green Concrete, ARTISTE Decorative Concrete Floors, and INSTAMIX Ready-to-Use Bagged Concrete.
Chief of the ready-mix concrete and modern building materials Prashant Jha said "The launch of the Patna-II plant underscores Nuvoco's dedication to providing innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of the construction industry in Bihar. Holcim Argentina launches Tector additives
10 January 2024Argentina: Holcim Argentina has launched a new line of liquid additives under the brand Tector. The line encompasses two products: Tector Hydrophobic 1230 reduces permeability in cementitious mortars, improving workability and corrosion resistance, while Tector Latex 1700 enhances adhesion, flexibility and plasticity in various applications, reducing surface cracking and flaking.
Vertua concrete for new airport terminal
24 November 2023Mexico: Cemex is supplying Vertua lower-CO2 concrete for the construction of Terminal 2 at Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport, which aims to be one of the most sustainable terminal buildings in Latin America. The 68,000m2 new terminal will be one of the most efficient in terms of sustainability, with the aim of obtaining LEED certification and minimising the CO2 emissions associated with the construction process. Cemex will contribute more than 85,000m3 of Vertua concrete, which will avoid the emission of 16,000t of CO2 compared to traditional concretes.
Cemex Vertua contract for major UAE port
06 September 2023UAE: Cemex will supply more than 200,000m3 of its Vertua low-carbon concrete for the development of major infrastructure at the Khalifa Port expansion, currently being undertaken by Khalifa Port’s parent company AD Ports Group. Khalifa Port chose the product due to its ability to achieve up to a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions, without loss of performance.
The mega-project is located between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and serves 25 shipping lines. It is a multipurpose 18.5m deep-water port with a total of 10.6km of berths that include two container terminals, a general cargo and dry bulk facility, a logistics port, a liquid bulk terminal and a roll on - roll off terminal.

Topcret launches BaxabEco and EcoCemento coatings
22 August 2023Spain: Topcret has added to two new products to its decorative microcement coatings range. BabaxEco and EcoCemento both comprise cement, fine sand, polymers and pigments. Topcret was the first microcement coatings producer to obtain environmental product declarations (EPDs) for its products.
India: Nuvoco Vistas has commissioned a new 60m3/hr ready-mix concrete batching plant in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The company says that it aims to grow its concrete footprint in the growing Southern Indian market. It operates one other batching plant in Tamil Nadu, located at Chennai.

Nuvoco launches InstaMix Superior Column Concrete
03 August 2023India: Nuvoco has announced the launch of its InstaMix Superior Column Concrete. The product’s formulation gives it workability for up to four hours, and a strength of 6MPa within 12 - 16 hours, enabling early de-shuttering of cast columns. Nuvoco will supply the concrete in 35kg bags.

Cemex UK launches Vertua reduced-CO2 mortars
01 August 2023UK: Cemex UK says that it has achieved a 30% reduction in the CO2 emissions of its mortars range, enabling it to bear the company's Vertua sustainability label. The producer said that it has incorporated its Vertua CEM II A-L Portland limestone cement (PLC), alongside new admixture technology, in its mortar mixes. It added that it has upgraded drying processes in its mortar production, increasing energy efficiency.
Cemex's Europe regional mortars production manager Andy Bright said “By utilising designed mortar formations, we have been able to make a considerable carbon reduction to the products in our mortars range. These products are prized by our customers because of their strong performance and strength, flexibility of supply and wide range of colours and we are confident they will appreciate the opportunity to choose a more sustainable product too.”
Argentina: Holcim Argentina has commissioned its new 120,000t/yr mortar plant at its Malagueño cement plant in Córdoba. The plant cost US$5m to build. It is equipped with six 100t raw material silos and eight 1t additive silos. It also has a 2000l mixer, three packing machines and an automated palletiser. Holcim Argentina says that the plant will produce its Tector Adhesive and Tector Revoques ranges of mortar.
Holcim Argentina CEO Christian Dedeu said “This new plant is aligned with our purpose of generating progress for people and the planet, accompanied by a diversification of our product portfolio. It consolidates us as the leading company in innovative solutions for construction.”
Brazil: Eternit has launched Eternit Solar, a fibre cement photovoltaic roof tile, across Brazil. Local press has reported that the tile has a power capacity of 142Wp, compared to 15Wp for conventional tiles. It is fully compatible with conventional fibre cement roof tiles in roof construction. Eternit says that four to six tiles will provide sufficient energy for a single home. The company tested the product in partnership with the Energy and Environment Institute of the University of São Paulo (IEE-USP) and the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). It produces the Eternit Solar tiles at its Atibaia plant in São Paulo, but plans to subsequently build a dedicated plant.
Eternit president Luís Augusto Barbosa said "The commercialisation of Eternit Solar is an important step for the future of the company. While the concrete photovoltaic tile is aimed at a niche market, the fibre cement photovoltaic tile is intended for high-volume applications. It is a revolutionary technology that will benefit a larger section of the population due to its more accessible cost.” He concluded “Eternit is on the market to democratise solar energy.”
