UK: Cemex has announced an upcoming dry mortar and sprayed concrete production plant in Swindon, Wiltshire. The plant will produce Cemex UK’s 30% reduced-CO2 Vertua mortar. It will also feature a drying system designed to minimise heat consumption. The Builders Merchants Journal newspaper has reported that the plant is scheduled to open in late 2025. The move is aimed at increasing Cemex’s market penetration in South East and South West England.
Akela Ground Engineering appoints John Ward as Precast Concrete Manager to expand operations
27 February 2025UK: Akela Group subsidiary Akela Ground Engineering has appointed John Ward as its Precast Concrete Manager to support an expansion of the Glasgow, Scotland-based company’s production footprint into England. Ward will be based between Akela Ground Engineering’s offices in Glasgow and Swadlincote, England, and will have a special focus on sourcing a manufacturing base for the company’s ABeam precast concrete elements, currently produced in Glasgow.
The Scotsman newspaper has reported that Ward brings over 35 years of managerial experience, including at Green Piling, Centrum Pile, Aarsleff Ground Engineering UK and DEL Piling.
Jensen Precast rebrands to Jensen Infrastructure

New products include reinforced concrete pipe, box culverts, utility enclosures, prestressed concrete posts and stormwater management elements.
Nuvoco Vistas launches second Nagpur ready-mix concrete plant
10 February 2025India: Nuvoco Vistas has commenced operations at its second, 90m³/hr ready-mix concrete plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Realty+ News has reported that the plant will receive raw materials from quarries in nearby Hingna and Panchgaon. It will supply the Nagpur market with Nuvoco Vistas’ Artiste decorative, Concreto high-strength, EcoDure reduced-CO2 and InstaMix bagged concretes.
CarbiCrete launches CarbiFlo cement-free paving grids in the US
24 January 2025US: Canada-based CarbiCrete has launched its CarbiFlo cement-free paving grids in the US market. It says that CarbiFlo paving grids allow permeation for stormwater runoff and soil stabilisation. Maine-based retailer Gagne & Son will distribute the product.
Giatec launches MixPilot in-transit concrete slump sensor
21 January 2025Canada: Monitoring equipment supplier Giatec has launched MixPilot, the concrete industry's first non-invasive, self-calibrating in-transit slump sensor. The developer says that MixPilot provides real-time data on slump, temperature and volume. It also integrates with data management platforms.
France: Saint-Gobain subsidiary Chryso has launched EnviroMix C-Clay, a new range of additives designed for the production of concrete using calcined clay cement. Chryso says that the product enables concrete producers to reduce their CO₂ emissions by 50% by displacing ordinary Portland cement (OPC).
Al Kifah Readymix & Blocks secures CarbonCure concrete accreditation
11 December 2024Saudi Arabia: Al Kifah Readymix & Blocks (KRB) has secured accreditation for its CarbonCure CO₂-injected concrete. Gulf Construction News has reported that the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organisation accredited CarbonCure as a Type-S additive following year-long tests. Canada-based CarbonCure Technologies licensed the technology to KRB. The producer uses CarbonCure in its Congreen range of reduced-CO2 cements.
KRB General Manager Nigel Harries said "This milestone marks KRB as the first company in the Kingdom to utilise this innovative solution.”
CarbiCrete obtains Environmental Product Declaration for cement-free concrete masonry units
21 November 2024Canada: CarbiCrete has obtained the first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its cement-free concrete masonry units (CMUs). The products have specific CO2 emissions of 11.7kg/m3 for the CMUs, 94% below the industry norm of 200kg/m3. FinancialWire News has reported that CarbiCrete’s recipe for the CMUs replaces cement with steel by-products, while also sequestering CO2.
Concrete products company Canal Block is set to commence production of CarbiCrete CMUs at its Port Colborne plant in Ontario in early 2025.
