Costa Rica: Cementos Progreso has commenced operations at its new US$1m West concrete plant at its El Coyol de Alajuela site. 12 permanent workers will be employed at the plant.

Bahamas: Del Zotto Group subsidiary Gold Rock Corporation plans to shut down two units – a precast concrete plant and a ready-mix concrete plant – in Grand Bahama. The Tribune newspaper has reported that the closure follows a refusal by the Grand Bahama Port Authority to renew a five-year contract for the supply of aggregates to the plants.

India: Ready-mix concrete producers suspended operations at 17 different batching plants in Mira-Bhayander and neighbouring Vasai, Maharashtra, during the second half of 2024. The closures resulted from closure notices from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. The Times of India newspaper has reported that all plants subsequently complied with pollution restrictions and have since reopened.

Canada: CarbiCrete has installed new equipment at Patio Drummond's Drummondville plant for the production of concrete using its cement-free technology. The technology mineralises captured CO₂ for sequestration inside the product.

UAE: China-based ReTo Eco-Solutions has entered into talks with a prospective customer for the supply of its RT18A automated concrete block production unit. The journal of engineering has reported the expected value of the contract as US$2m.

UK: The planning committee of North Lincolnshire Council has refused planning permission for Welton Aggregates’ proposed 250t/day ready-mix concrete batching plant at Slate House quarry in Hibaldstow, Lincolnshire. Local press has reported that the decision followed a site visit by councillors, who discovered a breach of traffic conditions for existing permissions. The new concrete plant would have employed three people.

Singapore: Jurong Port (JP) has officially launched its Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) Ecosystem, a complex of five ready-mix concrete plants. The RMC Ecosystem integrates 11 aggregates plots and a neighbouring cement terminal at the port. JP is now one step closer to realising its vision of developing Singapore’s first Integrated Construction Park (ICP), where construction companies can carry out off-site production in one central location. The ICP will feature the efficient discharge of construction inputs directly into a cluster of downstream construction-related activities, thereby improving productivity, reducing carbon emissions and optimising land use.

Costa Rica: Holcim Costa Rica has inaugurated a new US$650,000, 25m³/hr ready-mix concrete plant in Agua Caliente, Cartago. The El Financiero newspaper has reported that the new plant is equipped to produce Dynamax high-performance concrete and ECOCycle circular concrete. The plant will employ 13 people, including Costa Rica’s first women concrete mixer truck drivers.

CEO Natalia Soler noted the convenient proximity of the concrete plant to its 1.1Mt/yr Agua Caliente cement plant.

Colombia: Cementos Argos has inaugurated four new ready-mix concrete batching plants in Bogotá. One plant is fixed and the other three are mobile, with a combined investment value of US$1.59m. Cementos Argos says that it has gained 276,000m³/yr in additional capacity as result.

Cementos Argos Colombia Central manager Alexander Pedraza said "The mobility situation in Bogotá has challenged us to innovate and develop solutions that allow us to be ever closer to our customers.”

UK: Russell Roof Tiles has installed a 165kW solar power plant as part of a €22.2m upgrade to its Burton concrete roof tiles plant in Staffordshire. Energy company Alt-Group supplied the solar power plant, which is equipped with Solis Inverters’ energy storage inverters. The upgraded Burton plant also features wash water recycling.

Russell Roof Tiles has signed a pledge to achieve Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ neutrality by 2040.
