Australia: Recycled Concrete Products has received a US$18,900 fine from the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority for ‘significantly’ exceeding its licensed limits for concrete recycling. The Newcastle Herald newspaper has reported that the EPA responded to increased pollution risks after Recycled Concrete Products ‘almost doubled’ its annual processing allowance in the first eight months of the 2025 reporting year.
Fletcher Building publishes first-half 2025 financial year results
19 February 2025New Zealand: Fletcher Building has reported its financial results for the first half of its 2025 financial year, which began on 1 July 2024. The group recorded sales of US$2.05bn, down by 7% year-on-year from US$2.21bn, and negative earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) at a loss of US$14.9m. It previously recorded a positive EBIT of US$44.1m in the corresponding first half of its 2024 financial year.
Fletcher Building’s Concrete division’s sales fell by 5% to US$307m and its EBIT fell by 30% to US$28.1m. The division’s capital expenditure targeted ‘asset renewal, quarry extensions and key in-flight initiatives,’ including the commissioning of Firth Industries’ new Auckland ready-mix concrete plant. Firth Industries underwent an overall ‘continued reduction’ in production and truck resources, in line with a reduction in its volumes.
Azerbaijan raises concrete production in 2024
22 January 2025Azerbaijan: Ready-mix concrete production was 5.02Mt in 2024, up by 12% year-on-year from 2023 levels, Azer-Press News has reported. Production of precast concrete elements also grew, by 41% year-on-year, to 46,300m3.
New Zealand: Ready-mix concrete plants produced 3.92Mm3 of ready-mix concrete in the 2024 financial year, which ended on 30 June 2024. According to data from Statistics New Zealand, this corresponds to an 11% year-on-year decline from 2023 financial year levels. Volumes also dropped in the fourth quarter of the 2024 financial year, by 9% year-on-year to 978,0003.
