C-Concrete and Ecocem scale up precast concrete production with ACT alternative cement

Belgium: Ecocem has demonstrated its ACT reduced-CO₂ cement in industrial-scale precast concrete production at C-Concrete’s Antwerp plant. ACT cement replaced 70% of clinker in the concrete mix used to produce two full-scale precast elements: a 10m x 3m firewall and an 8m x 3m insulated sandwich wall. A lifecycle assessment showed a 68% reduction in the components’ carbon footprints against conventional concrete-based controls. No changes to C-Concrete’s production processes were necessary.

Ecocem’s head of ACT implementation, Jaouad Nadah, said "We're delighted to see ACT perform at full scale exactly as it did in the laboratory – no surprises and no production issues."
