UK: Leiths (Scotland) has secured permission from Aberdeenshire Council to open a 27.5ha aggregates quarry at Craig Farm near Huntly. BBC News has reported that the quarry will yield 650,000t of materials for use in ready-mix concrete and asphalt production over a 22-year operational life.
Successful demonstration of Ecocem’s ACT alternative cement
UK: Construction firm John Sisk & Son has successfully concluded its construction of part of the Wembley Park mixed development using concrete produced with Ecocem’s ACT alternative circular cement. The concrete met design specifications for all elements, while reducing embodied CO2 emissions by 70%. Construction Index News has reported that Capital Concrete and Creagh Concrete also participated in the project, which commanded €594,000 in Innovate UK funding.
FP McCann Group grows profit in 2024
UK: Precast concrete market leader FP McCann Group recorded a profit of US$67.7m in 2024, up by 11% year-on-year. It overcame a drop in turnover of less than 1%, to US$536m, Insider Media News has reported.
Knife River acquires Strata Corporation
US: Knife River has completed its acquisition of North Dakota-based ready-mix concrete, aggregates and asphalt producer Strata Corporation for US$454m. Strata Corporation employs 900 seasonal workers and commands 28 ready-mix plants, three asphalt plants and 30 years of aggregates reserves, supported by a logistics fleet of seven trains and 400 railcars. It also includes a contracting services division. Strata Corporation will merge into Knife River's Central Region operations.
