Mexico: Cemex México has recorded over 40,000 listeners to its Masters del Concreto concrete podcast since its launch in June 2024. The podcast features host and Cemex México president Ricardo Naya in discussion with other leaders from around the industry. Most recently, Naya interviewed construction firm Anahuac Organización Constructora president Enrique Martínez-Ábrego about the role of cement and concrete for development in Mexico.
Noticias Financieras News has reported that the podcast aims to inform young people about the world of concrete. The series is available on Cemex México’s YouTube page.
Premier Graphene completes tests of graphene-enhanced concrete with prospective buyer
27 September 2024US: A ‘leading global building materials producer’ has independently validated Premier Graphene’s claimed 32% increase in the tensile strength of concrete produced using its graphene enhancement technology. Dow Jones Institutional News has reported that the building materials producer will now conduct larger-scale testing prior to possibly entering into initial and long-term supply agreements with Premier Graphene.
Premier Graphene president Pedro Mendez said "We are thrilled with the positive feedback we've received, and we look forward to seeing the results of the further concrete testing which is expected to be confirmed and lead to orders. This could mark a significant milestone for Premier Graphene and our commitment to advancing construction technologies."
Canada: Threatened strike action at Heidelberg Materials North America’s ready-mix concrete plants in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, is on hold after the company and the Teamsters Local 213 union agreed to mediation meetings. Local press has reported that the meetings will seek to draw up a new contract for workers at the producer’s ready-mix concrete plants. The union previously voted down Heidelberg Materials North America’s last and final offer in the on-going contract dispute in April 2024.
Heidelberg Materials North America said “The potential strike notice will be held in abeyance until a new collective bargaining agreement is ratified or the mediator is unable to resolve differences between the parties."
