Court upholds permit denial for Shelly Co.’s proposed Alexandria ready-mixed concrete plant
23 August 2024US: A Licking County court has upheld the county council’s decision to deny a permit for Shelly Co. to build a ready-mix concrete batching plant near Alexandria. The company’s proposal also included the construction of an asphalt mixing plant at the site in Ohio. Local press has reported that Shelly Co. failed in its attempt to argue that floodplain regulations did not apply to the site due to its historical use as an aggregates quarry.
Julpit plans ready-mix concrete plant for Fort Bend County
21 August 2024US: Julpit is seeking a permit from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to build a new ready-mix concrete batching plant in Fort Bend County, Texas. The facility will also be equipped with a stone crushing plant. Local press has reported that a public comment session over the plans took place on 20 August 2024.

Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority loses land for planned ready-mix concrete plant in Basai
04 July 2024India: The Haryana Forest Department has reclaimed 1.2 hectares of woodland in Basai, Haryana, from the Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). The Times of India newspaper has reported that the GDMA had allotted the land to a proposed ready-mix concrete plant project. The land was reportedly subject to no official agreement as to its use, raising fears of unlawful development.
The Haryana Forest Department said "The reclamation of this forest land is a significant conservation effort for Gurgaon. It sends a clear message that the protection of natural habitats is top priority for us and no kind of encroachment on protected land will be tolerated."
Telangana government closes down Pasura Tellapur Builders’ Kollur ready-mix concrete plant
07 June 2024India: The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) has issued a closure order to Pasura Tellapur Builders for an unauthorised ready-mixed concrete batching plant at Kollur in Telangana’s Sangareddy District. The New Indian Express newspaper has reported that the order follows an inspection based on complaints by local people. The inspection showed that the Kollur plant had violated the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and fell short of the mandatory distance of 200m from residential areas by 73%.
Bulgaria: The government has licensed concrete and aggregates producer Balastrieri to conduct aggregates exploration on land in Yakoviya Chiflik, Plovdiv. SeeNews has reported that the licence will last until April 2025. Balastrieri plans to invest €13,800 in exploration at the site.
India: Three new Indian concrete companies have separately secured agreements for the use of Finland-based Betolar’s Geoprime alkali-activated slag and fly ash additive. Reuters News has reported that the companies are Balaiji Cement Products, Shiv Tiles and SNEH Precast. Engineering company Godrej & Boyce has also signed a letter of intent with the supplier for pilot production of concrete blocks, paving slabs and other elements.
Betolar expects producers to achieve global concrete production volumes of 250,000t/yr of concrete containing Geoprime by 2023.
Germany: Austria-based Baumit has acquired four ready-mix dry mortar plants from Dr. Arnold Schäfer GmbH. The Kronen Zeitung newspaper has reported that the plants are licenced to mix Sakret brand mortars.
The acquisition brings Baumit’s total number of building materials production facilities in Germany to 14.
