CRH acquires Dutra Materials
18 November 2024US: Ireland-based CRH has acquired California-based aggregates and asphalt producer Dutra Materials. The FT newspaper has reported that the business will join CRH’s Americas Materials Solutions business.
CRH Americas Materials Solutions president Scott Parson said “Following our entry into California earlier this year via the acquisitions of BoDean Company and Northgate Ready Mix, we are excited to expand our presence.”
Court upholds permit denial for Shelly Co.’s proposed Alexandria ready-mixed concrete plant
23 August 2024US: A Licking County court has upheld the county council’s decision to deny a permit for Shelly Co. to build a ready-mix concrete batching plant near Alexandria. The company’s proposal also included the construction of an asphalt mixing plant at the site in Ohio. Local press has reported that Shelly Co. failed in its attempt to argue that floodplain regulations did not apply to the site due to its historical use as an aggregates quarry.
CRH acquires Ary Corporation
23 July 2024US: CRH has acquired ready-mix concrete and aggregates producer Ary Corporation. The Commercial Observer newspaper has reported that Ary Corporation operates nine ready-mixed concrete plants and 25 aggregates sites, along with construction and paving services and seven asphalt plants.

The acquisition expands our existing footprint in Colorado and presents CRH with attractive opportunities for development and growth. US: Heidelberg Materials North America has acquired aggregates and asphalt producer Highway Materials. Highway Materials is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and operates four stone quarries, a concrete recycling facility and other assets, with 350 employees. Heidelberg Materials previously acquired Texas-based aggregates producer Victory Rock and concrete recycling company Aaron Materials earlier in July 2024. The deals advance Germany-based Heidelberg Materials’ strategy of growth through small-to-medium-sized synergistic bolt-on acquisitions. The combined value of the acquisitions is US$380m, with anticipated earnings synergies of US$50m.

Fletcher Building to sell stake in Fiji business
19 June 2024Fiji: New Zealand-based Fletcher Building has agreed to sell its 50% stake in construction firm Higgins Holdings Fiji to Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) and Fijian Holdings for US$12.3m. BusinessDesk News has reported that the parties expect to complete the deal by early July 2024. The transaction includes a non-cash impairment of US$9.2m on the business.
Fletcher Building’s acting CEO Nick Traber said "We believe the partnership positions the business well to continue to play an important role in Fiji, focused on infrastructure development.”

Lehigh Hanson acquires JEV Recycling
05 October 2022US: Lehigh Hanson has acquired Washington-based concrete and asphalt recycling company JEV Recycling. The Heidelberg Materials subsidiary says that the acquisition strengthens its regional recycled materials portfolio, enabling it to increase its sustainable offering.
President and chief executive officer Chris Ward said “The acquisition of JEV Recycling represents an important step for Lehigh Hanson as we grow our business beyond cement and aggregates while working to lower our environmental footprint. It also highlights the importance of finding innovative ways to serve the growing needs of our customers for responsibly sourced and circular products so they can meet the sustainability targets of their projects.”
Canada: Holcim has announced its acquisition of Mathers Group’s quarry and asphalt assets in Quebec. The group says that the acquisition will accelerate its development of local circular construction practices by expanding its recycled concrete offering.
